Trashed

26 July 2006
Supposedly to be off in lieu, but was forfeited. Sigh. Slacked at home until I felt like going out to relax. Went to MOS at 11pm plus – the dance floor was already hot. I downed the two standard drinks straight away quickly. It was rather boring – the music at both the R&B (cage) and techno (main arena) were horrible. Worse still, the drinks were yucky too. Can’t get high anywhere. Clubbing till club closed at 4.30am. Having time in hand, I walked around taking pictures using my K750i because I don’t have my camera with me. Here are some of the shots.

27 July 2006
Reached home at around 7am in the morning, slept less than 6 hours – woke up by 12nn. Went to SLCC to pass the photos taken on 23 July 2006 to them so that the models can have the pictures. I hope they wouldn’t say, “Why you made me look so ugly?” or “Why you made me look so fat?” – that was my greatest fear. To me, the comments of the model(s) themselves weigh more that even a professional photographer’s critique.

Went to Singapore Art Museum to see the Singapore Young Photographer Award thingy at 7pm. Yah, I believed that my entries were now in the trash bin. Suffered from a total defeat – my works were no match against the winning pictures – nowhere near their standards. Feeling extremely down, not only because of the cost of printing the photos, the trouble of mounting the photos on the mounting board, but more of the efforts going down the drain.

Some shots at the Singapore Art Museum. The winners' works will be at display there...

History of my photography journey
I started photography since 2001 with a consumer camera (Canon Powershot A10). It finally ended its service on 23 May 2004 after my waterproof bag failed during a kayaking expedition – it was seriously damaged from the seawater. I survived using a cheapskate camera (Hanshing Cam) till 28 Nov 2004, during Sitex 2004, I gotten my Fujifilm S5500 Digital Camera (Prosumer camera). 23 July 2006, the battery casing broke and it was a sign that this camera is going to end its service to me soon. What’s next?

My gone case Canon Powershot A10...

Never had gone through any formal training for photography, I learn the ropes by trial and error, from books, from magazines, Internet, forums and from people etc. I realised that this is not getting me anywhere and that I should go for some courses to really go into photography. After all, I truly love photography, and for these 5 years, I haven’t done anything really productive nor do I have any achievements. Took part in various competitions, but the results were always the same.
