a) Protection of 1-Phenylethanol by 3,4-Dihydro-2H-pyran
b) Purification of 2-(1-Phenylethoxy)-tetrahydro-2H-pyran by Flash Column Chromatography

Starting material (1-Phenylethanol)

1-Phenylethanol with 3,4-Dihydro-2H-pyran and anhydrous ether in cold bath with calcium chloride guard tube.

Toluenesulfonic acid monohydrate added and stirring with magnetic stirrer.

TLC with hexane:ethyl acetate (4:1) solvent system to confirm convertion

Washing of organic layer with saturated sodium bicarbonate solution followed by saturated sodium chloride solution.

Remove the solvents using the rotary evaporator
